Last BActor Basics Acting Course

Written by NewLiveTheatre on . Posted in Latest News

JoinUs_ActingCoursesThe last BActors Basics 1 day acting crash course will be running this Sunday in Manchester. This course has been enjoyed by many actors looking to gain some practical skills and information about working as an Actor in today’s industry. This course is for adults ages 16+ only.

This course, which is aimed at complete beginners to those with some basic acting experience, covers the basics of becoming an Actor, giving practical advice on analysing scripts for auditions, marketing yourself, improvisation, standing out and how to start finding acting jobs. Previous attendees have ranged from aspiring young actors to lawyers and qualified teachers of non-arts subjects looking to gain confidence in the classroom or explore new career options. If you’ve always wanted to act but haven’t had the time to commit to regular classes and are brave enough to be thrown in at the deep end, this is the course for you!

The course is lead by our Artistic Director who casts, produces, directs, markets and writes many of New Live Theatre’s productions.

The BActor Basics course will run 11am until 5pm on Sunday, 2nd February in Manchester centre. The session has a small intake with just a couple of places remaining. Attendance is by advanced booking only. There will be a 30 minute break for lunch.

A Parson’s Tale Returns for 2014 Tour

Written by NewLiveTheatre on . Posted in Shows

We’re delighted that A Parson’s Tale is now back performing in village and church halls around the north west. Last year the show, which stars entertainer Bob Young, visited 9 venues, with the very first performance taking place at the end of 2012 in Bolton. That’s a total of 10 venues.

MellorParishCentre_AParsonsTaleOn 17th January we were extremely pleased to visit the fabulous village of Mellor (nr. Marple) just outside Stockport where we were treated to a warm and receptive sell-out audience. Thank you to Guy for all his efforts in pulling in the local parishioners and friends of the Parish! We had a great time!

Theatre in Bolton

We’re very pleased to be returning to the outskirts of Bolton next month on Thursday, 20th February when we visit Christ Church Hall in the village of Little Lever. Tickets for the show are available online or via the church hall themselves if you live locally! As always, you may also pay on the door – but if it’s anything like the last show, we may not always be able to guarantee you a seat!!

After Little Lever we’re also making a return to Waterfoot, Rawntenstall. This time A Parson’s Tale is performing at The New Millennium Theatre. The show is actually going to be performing there for 2 nights – Thursday 24th and Friday 25th April. We’re quite looking forward to this visit actually as it will mark the first time the Rev & Mrs Fletcher have appeared in a theatre style venue on a raised stage, and with a balcony – up to now, Bob has performed on a level or very low stage in church and village halls (although, not to break too much with our norm, the theatre is in fact an old converted Church Hall)! Again, tickets are available online, from the vibrant theatre themselves or on the door.

We are currently in the process of booking in further venues for this year’s run. If you have a village hall, church hall, community centre or similar, who may wish to host a night of live Victorian entertainment, please do check out details on joining our Touring Network!

Manchester Theatre Showcase Writer Opportunities

Written by NewLiveTheatre on . Posted in Blog

TheatreShowcase_640x111_banner

We are very pleased to announce that we are now open for script submissions for the Manchester Theatre Showcase 2014.

We have 6 great local, experienced directors (each operating their own theatre company) lined up to work with 6 emerging local Writers. Selections for the 3rd annual competition event will be made in March after the submission deadline, after which we and our Directors will get to work on transferring your play from words on a page to full life on the stage!

In May we will hold open auditions for the showcase to select the best actors for your play and we will work on developing a single scene from your play to showcase to a live, mixed industry-consumer audience who will vote on their favourite to win a full production with New Live Theatre. For the runner ups, we also promote your scripts to local companies who may wish to consider your script after the showcase.

If your play wins the showcase, you will receive a commission on ticket sales for the resultant production of your full play.

Last year was a fantastic, jam packed 2 night sell-out and we have high hopes of a repeat for this year’s event, which also comes with some extras.

More more information on the showcase, please see the MANCHESTER THEATRE SHOWCASE page. To maximise the potential of your script being selected, please make sure that you read and adhere to the Submission Rules!

If you are an Agent, Casting Director or Theatre Company wishing to attend the showcase in an official capacity, please email Paul Kenney paul@newlivetheatre.co.uk (showcase founder & producer). Please NO EMAILS FROM ACTORS AT THIS STAGE, and Writers should email scripts@newlivetheatre.co.uk if you have any questions.

Submission Deadline: Friday 28th February Midnight.
