Rehearsals evenings in Manc Centre. Schedule to suit chosen cast.
ROLE: Jack, Lead Role. 19-26. Loveable Jack the Lad type, with a hint of ‘boy next door’. Everyone’s mate. An outgoing optimist.
ROLE: Kate, girlfriend of Jack. 19-26. Playful, understanding and caring – could almost be a counsellor you’d entrust all your secrets to without even realising. A good listener. Requires an emotive Actress with a strong, loveable personality.
ROLE: Hanson, 18-26. Jack’s best mate. Small supporting but comedic role. That irresponsible, shameless mate who gets too drunk at house parties and treats life like one big joke.
ROLE: Wendy, 40-55. Jack’s mother. Supporting role but important. Delivers a lot of the comedic relief. The classic interfering mother. Always ready to drop around uninvited to offer some unwanted advice.
ROLE: Dave, 40-60. Jack’s laid-back and supportive father. A normal bloke. Small supporting role.

Women’s Voices – Theatre (Genre: Comedy-Drama)

ROLE: Anthea, in her late 40’s, middle class, married to Roger. She is the unofficial ‘leader’ of the choir, with some musical training and basic piano playing skills. She was educated at a state school and at Sussex University.
She works for a Charity which supports disadvantaged people to prepare for work, and live independently. She has written a book on Women And Work, which is soon to be published.
ROLE: Roger, in his early 50’s, married to Anthea. He is a senior manager at an insurance company. An ordinary bloke, who enjoys watching the sport on television and having a pint in the pub with his male friends.
ROLE: Janice, in her mid 40’s, born and brought up in Salford, Northern working class background. Single mother with a son in his 20’s and a 10 year old daughter. Tough, blunt and plump. Socialist. Studied and graduated in Social Policy at Newcastle University. County Council Lead Officer for Equality in Children and Young People’s Services. Active member of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS). Her diary is always full with work meetings and seminars, conferences, etc. She has written a book on Work and Radical Women, a subject similar to that of Anthea’s book. It has yet to find a publisher.
ROLE: Harriet, in her 70s. Lives alone in a flat. Impoverished. She is a communist. Marched against the war in Vietnam. Was at Greenham Common for four years. Anti-American. Anti-capitalist. Was once a teacher at a private girls’ public school – taught English and sport.
ROLE: Sally, is in her mid to late 40’s. She auditions for the choir in Act 1. Middle class. Well connected. Her husband works in public relations. She works as an accountant for a City firm. Studied music at college. Sang in the BBC Symphony Chorus. Soprano.
Low-Paid - details discussed on successful application.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: MUST be Manchester based, mobile and have some singing ability. This is NOT a musical, but singing will be required.

In My Day – Short Rural Small-scale Tour (Genre: Comedy-Drama)

PAID ROLE.
ROLE: Mrs Hardkiss/Mother, 65-75. Stubborn, set in her ways. Good comedic timing. Think ex-headmistress mellowed with age. Will consider from 60 years to play up. Character 70.
ROLE: Sara/Young Mrs Hardkiss, early 20s. A young, modern version of Mrs Hardkiss. Stubborn, sarcastic, edgy. Quick wit. Good comedic timing. Versatile.
Paid - details discussed on successful application. Exceeds NMW.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: Must be northern native (salford/manchester/lancashire), based locally and have transport as rehearsals & rural venues are not nearby network links. Possibility of re-run later in year for successful tour.

PLAYING AGE: Actress MUST be over 65 years old.
CHARACTER: Archetypal Headmistress. Strong minded but sympathetic. Victorian *Upper-Middle Class. Stubborn and proud.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: This is a LEADING role, therefore applicants MUST have experience in professional/fringe theatre. Comedy experience preferred but not essential as this is a role to be played very straight and naturalistic.
